Jesus is Our Portion – Praise God!

For those who believe and are earnestly seeking God, we are told that the Lord is our portion. What an incredible thought!

OK, just what is a portion? In the Greek from the New Testament, the word used is meros (G3313), which means to get as a section or allotment, a division or share – i.e. a portion. In the Old Testament, the word is cheleq (H2506), and it is an allotment:— inheritance, part, X partake, portion. In other words, this is the part or portion of the inheritance people will receive for the way they live their lives.

Scripture talks about the appointment of a portion for different groups of people. The twelve tribes of Israel were all allotted their portion of land when they entered into the promised land. The wicked and evil servant’s portion is not going to be something they will enjoy. In fact, we are told their light will be put out.

Matthew 24:51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Proverbs 13:9 … but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

Proverbs 24:20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

But, on the other hand, the saint’s portion is something for which we will be eternally grateful. From the sweet psalmist David to the prophet Jeremiah, we are told that the Lord will be our portion.

Psalms 16:5 The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.

Psalms 73:26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

Psalms 119:57 CHETH. Thou art my portion, O LORD: I have said that I would keep thy words.

Psalms 142:5 I cried unto thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living.

Lamentations 3:24 The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

The verses in scripture that talk about the reward of the righteous are far too numerous to list here. Just the thought that Jesus is our reward, our portion for all eternity is enough for me. This one promise is too awesome to just accept and move on to the next. We really need to consider the ramifications of what this entails and try to get our mind wrapped around the magnificence and magnitude of this incredible promise. No matter how dark the days seem or how hard the struggle we face is, we have an awesome promise from the Lord that no one can steal from us!

We will live for all eternity in the light of the Lord. There will be no more tears, no more pain, no more doubt, no more fear and no more turmoil or division of any kind. The Lord has spent the last two thousand years building and creating a place for us complete with homes and neighborhoods and every imaginable delight. He told us He will fulfill the desires of our hearts. The Father and the Lord will be the light of this kingdom and every heart’s desire will be met and answered. We will see our loved ones who went home before us and we will see the giants of faith talked about throughout scripture. We will finally understand the things we endured here on earth, and we will praise God for all His marvelous works in us and to us and through us. We will meet those whose lives were impacted by our witness and our testimony. We will step into eternity and into the presence of the Lord and will never have to return to this dark and dismal world again. We will inherit our new spiritual bodies which will not age or grow weak or become ill – ever again! We will enter into eternity as part of the beloved family of God Himself. We will see Jesus! We will see the Father! Glory! Hallelujah!

We thank you and praise you Father for this awesome promise! Please help us dwell on this when we get discouraged and times are hard. Please bring to our minds the remembrance of this incredible promise and all it means so we can increase our faith and trust in you. Let this one notion give us peace and rest when we face trying and difficult times. Help us oh Lord to come into the realization of just who we are and what incredible promises await us! You are awesome in power Lord! So merciful and mighty! So holy and righteous beyond anything we can imagine. So good, so very very good! Thank you Lord for saving us! Thank you Lord for building a place for us! Thank you Lord for being our portion! In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
