Kept in His Name

As I was reading the Word this morning, I was struck by some of the language in Jesus’ prayer in John 17:11-12:

11 I am no longer in the world; but they are in the world, and I am coming to You. Holy Father, keep them in Your name that You have given Me, so that they may be one just as We are.
12 While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name that You have given Me. I guarded them, and not one of them was lost except the son of destruction. (TLV – Tree of Life version)

Jesus is saying that we, those who the Father has given to him, are kept in His name – the name that the Father has given to Him. We are kept in the name of Jesus Christ, the Holy Anointed One – the Holy One of Israel! Jesus’ name – “Your name that You have given me” is the name of God! Jesus and God, the Father, are One which leads us to the Shema:

[Deu 6:4-5 KJV] 4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God [is] one LORD: 5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Jesus continues to pray for us – that we may be one with Him and with the Father; that they would be in us – that we would be perfected in unity (Psalm 133). Wow, this is so incredible and so deep, it is very hard to get hold of. We are His. If we believe – we are His and He keeps us by the power of His name so that His will, will be done in us. That we may be one with Him and that we will reside with Him – forever!

Oh heavenly Father, please open our hearts, minds and spirits to receive the deepest revelation that this brings. Help us to realize how important we are to you and how much you have already done to secure our salvation! Help us to realize how deep the wells of your salvation are and teach us to access all you have provided for us. You are wondrous and amazing Father and we love and adore you with all of our hearts and souls, with all of our minds and all of our might! With your help, we will love and adore you forever! In the matchless name of Jesus we pray. Amen!
