I read some of the Word everyday. My day is incomplete without it. I feel lost and adrift without the comfort and peace I get from partaking of the divine. I was thinking of just how important this Word is to me.
If my home were on fire and I could only take one thing – one possession from my home – it would be my study Bible. If I had to give away all my possessions – the last to leave my hands would be my study Bible. Cars, clothes, shoes, weapons, tools, sporting equipment, books, computers, phones, tablets – the very last thing to leave my hand would be my study Bible.
I love my family – more than words can adequately convey – yet, my soul yearns for the divine and I bask in the presence of God while studying His Word. David said it so well:
O God, You are my God;
Early will I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You;
My flesh longs for You
In a dry and thirsty land
Where there is no water.
Psalm 63:1
In a world gone completely crazy, the one thing we have that is certain is God’s Word. The most remarkable thing about all this is that The Word became flesh and dwelt among us!
We get to know the Lord through His Word. We get to see how he thinks and we learn his ways by digging into His Word. The Lord wakes me each day, and the 1st thing I do is thank him and praise him, then I grab his Word and immerse myself in Him. I really look forward to getting up early so I can spend time in the Word and with the Lord.
Many people think this is insane. Oh well, they may never attain the joy I experience when a verse is revealed or illumined to me. It truly is quite extraordinary. The Lord still speaks to his people, but we have to position ourselves to hear. The Lord is pleased with faith and he is doubly pleased (I think) when we anticipate his divine revelation as we seek him. I learn something new every day, and I am strengthened and nurtured by the Word. It’s like a treasure hunt – with so many golden nuggets! I am reminded of a verse
Matthew 13:44 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”
The Word is like that treasure and the more we immerse ourselves in it, the more like our Lord we can become! We can be people of the Word, who know the ways of the Lord! Lord knows the world needs more of us so we can show the people how to approach and find him!
