Putting on airs

As I was washing the breakfast dishes this morning and placing a lot on emphasis on a dirty soup cup (it had stuff caked to the outside of it) suddenly the Lord whispered to me about washing the outside of the cup. I’m sure you remember Jesus’s words on this:

Matthew 23:25 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence.”

Another way of looking at this is that we often get all cleaned up and dressed up to go to church or some function and we put on our very best attire. There’s nothing wrong in that, but we also tend to do the same thing spiritually ~ we want everyone to think we are very pious and spiritual people. When I was a boy, mom used to call that ‘putting on airs.’

Frankly, it doesn’t matter what other people think of us. There is not a single person on earth who can or will change my eternal destination. The only thing that really matters is what the Lord thinks about us. We need to remember that the Lord examines the heart to see what our intentions are and he is not fooled by any external displays.

1 Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

I’m not sure if this was for me, or another – so I posted it quickly. Only the Lord knows our hearts! And, he knows them better than we do!

Father, please help us to be real people – not make believe people who put on airs for others to impress them. Help us to examine ourselves closely and rend our heart before you Father. I remember David’s words from Psalm 51 – Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts. Purge us Father with hyssop and we shall be clean; wash us and we shall be whiter than snow. Create in us a clean heart O God and renew a steadfast spirit within us. I pray in the name of Jesus! Amen!

  1. Awesome. As I was praying this AM 4/23/16, the Holy Spirit says to me to seek for a Warriors Annointing.
And ” wow” how awesome for a time such as this. With what’s presently going on the world,
And in my my life, it’s a true Rama word.
    God knows our tomorrow.
Father God, I thank you that our steps are guided by you. David said in Psalms 119: 105 that your Word is a lamp unto my feet and light unto path. The Lord showed me that the lamp is as a candle for each step we take. And the Light is for our tomorrow/ future. The word light here represents the dunamis power or explosion. Like when God said Light Be or Let there be light. It shines through eternity.
Thank you for the opportunity to share.
