In James 1, there is a phrase that has always intrigued me
James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no change or shadow of turning.
No variableness, no change or shadow of turning. Imagine that! This is so rich, so deep…
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever.
All of God’s promises will come to pass – all – every single one! Everything he said he would do – he will do. I’ve heard speculation that there are no shadows in heaven. I can imagine that! The new city of Jerusalem will be lit with the light of the glory of God and the Lamb will be its lamp!
Revelation 21:23 The city has no need of sun or moon to shine in it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb.
Further, scripture says the Lord is not slack but patient
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow concerning His promise, as some count slowness. But He is patient with us, because He does not want any to perish, but all to come to repentance.
So, get ready! Jesus is coming again! He will most certainly arrive just as foretold and that day will be darkness and gloom for the lost, but heaven to those who love his appearing! We can count on it! God will have his way, in his timing and in his own good time.
This verse has always meant so much to me. It speaks of the faithfulness and un-variableness of our amazing God! When I consider it amongst the trials and tribulations of life, I am comforted knowing that God is on his throne and that there is nothing stronger than he is. There is nothing that can depose him, slow him or stay his mighty hand! His arm is not any weaker or shorter than it has ever been! He is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent! He is the Holy One, the highly exalted one, the one and only true God! He is Lord of all creation! And he is with us and will never forsake us or leave us!
Hebrews 13:5 For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Father, we thank you that we can count on you no matter what life throws at us. We thank you that you are solid, a rock solid firm foundation for our lives. We thank you that your plans and purposes will be accomplished in our lives and in the world. We thank you for Jesus who has saved us! We thank you for your Word which is such a rich blessing. Help us to believe your Word and to know that you are who you say are – in every way! Help us to continue to live and walk in your light until you come and fetch us to take us home with you! Help us Lord to be about your business every day and to keep eternity foremost in our minds at all times. Help us not grow weary or faint – give us the strength and courage we need to continue on! Thank you Lord! I pray in Jesus’ mighty name! Amen!
