[Psa 50:14, 23 NLT] 14 Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High. … 23 But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God.”
Many think they must fill all their time with projects to serve God, but all God really wants is our hearts. He wants us to realize his provision for us and to be thankful for it. When we thank him, we are offering sacrifices that do indeed honor him and please him.
[Mic 6:8 NLT] 8 No, O people, the LORD has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
We get so caught up in trying to do more, to try and buy our way with our good works and deeds. But, this is vanity – and can really do more harm than good. If our acceptance is performance based, we are the most miserable people on earth. Isn’t it amazing how we can take God’s promises and turn them into work instructions and then beat our brothers and sisters over the head with those same ideas?
And yet, all we really need to do is to love God. We must believe him and his word, love him and love each other as much as we love ourselves. Jesus made it so very simple:
[Mar 12:29-31 NLT] 29 Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The LORD our God is the one and only LORD. 30 And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ 31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”
Simply then, love God and love our neighbor. Walk humbly and do the right thing in every situation and love mercy. That means to be merciful as God is merciful. That means we should forgive as God does because his mercy and love endures forever! Praise him for his faithfulness and thank him for his lovingkindness – for he is amazing and remarkable!
Oh Lord, we do thank you and praise you for all you’ve done for us and all you still doing in us, to us, through us and for us! You are a most amazing and loving Father and we adore you! Thank you for your mercy, thank you for your love and lovingkindness! Thank you for Jesus and all he accomplished for us! Thank you for your plans for us which are for good and for a future. Thank you for your Holy Word so full of promises, hope and clear instruction. Thank you Father that you are the same today as you have ever been and you will be the same eons from now for you are perfect in all your ways! We love you Lord! IN Jesus’ matchless name we pray! Amen!
