1 Chronicles 17:27 “For when you grant a blessing, O LORD, it is an eternal blessing!”
When I read that this morning, it touched me just how wonderful and magnificent our Lord is! King David wanted to build a home for the Lord. He was living in a cedar palace and he wanted to build something for the Lord. Yet, the Lord told Nathan to tell David
[1Chronicles 17:7-14 NLT] 7 “Now go and say to my servant David, ‘This is what the LORD of Heaven’s Armies has declared: I took you from tending sheep in the pasture and selected you to be the leader of my people Israel. 8 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have destroyed all your enemies before your eyes. Now I will make your name as famous as anyone who has ever lived on the earth! 9 And I will provide a homeland for my people Israel, planting them in a secure place where they will never be disturbed. Evil nations won’t oppress them as they’ve done in the past, 10 starting from the time I appointed judges to rule my people Israel. And I will defeat all your enemies. “‘Furthermore, I declare that the LORD will build a house for you–a dynasty of kings! 11 For when you die and join your ancestors, I will raise up one of your descendants, one of your sons, and I will make his kingdom strong. 12 He is the one who will build a house–a temple–for me. And I will secure his throne forever. 13 I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my favor from him as I took it from the one who ruled before you. 14 I will confirm him as king over my house and my kingdom for all time, and his throne will be secure forever.'”
David then went and prayed to thank the Lord for his blessing. Yet, David and Solomon never realized this blessing had a two fold fulfillment. Yes, Solomon would build the temple – a physical building – but later another would come and build an eternal temple that would be forever secure!
Of course, Nathan was speaking of Jesus and the work he would do to bring us into position as the temple of God! When we receive the King of Kings, we become the temple of the Most High! What an amazing Lord and God we have! David said
[1Ch 17:16 NLT] 16 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD and prayed, “Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?
Indeed! Who are we that the Lord has brought us this far? We are the chosen ones, the anointed ones! We are the ones destined for this time and this place to declare the works and the Word of the Lord! We are blessed with an eternal blessing – oh Lord how hard it is to imagine all the things we will enjoy in your presence!
[Psalm 16:11 NKJV] 11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence [is] fullness of joy; At Your right hand [are] pleasures forevermore.
We thank you and praise you Lord for your lovingkindness! We thank you and praise you Lord for your plan from the very beginning to redeem a peculiar people to yourself! You did all the work and you made it so because it pleased you! We adore you and love you Father! Please continue to open our eyes and ears that we might see and hear you! What a God you are! What a magnificent and wonderful Father you are! Words are inadequate to express our gratitude and admiration for all you have done! Oh bless the Lord oh my soul and all that is within me – bless His holy name!
