[Jeremiah 31:3 NKJV] 3 The LORD has appeared of old to me, [saying]: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.
Here’s an incredible thought! We are drawn by the lovingkindness of our Father in heaven! Lovingkindness or hesed in Hebrew describes a special characteristic of God and of the people who are faithful to Him. Hesed is a quality that moves someone to act for the benefit of someone else without considering “what’s in it for me?”
Lovingkindness is one of my favorite bible words because it really paints a clear picture of who God is and how much he loves us. We are drawn to him through his lovingkindness, his mercy, his love and his favor. This is not of ourselves nor do we deserve such remarkable kindness. And yet, this is how the Father draws us.
[John 6:44 KJV] 44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
We will not approach Jesus on our own – we are drawn to him by the Holy Spirit – praise God!
[John 12:32 KJV] 32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all [men] unto me.
And here Jesus says he will draw all men to himself. This is the lovingkindness of God being manifested through Jesus to draw or woo us to himself. Before I was saved and born again, I used to run away from the fire and brimstone type of preaching. What drew me to the Lord was his love. And yet, after I was saved – I too resorted to the fire and brimstone approach and people ran away from me! It wasn’t until I matured some in the Lord before I settled down and used love rather then the fear of damnation to speak to people about the Lord. Sometimes it takes a while for the truth to settle into us.
So, remember – he draws us and everyone else too with his lovingkindness. So, be kind to one another…
[Ephesians 4:32 KJV] 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
Father, we thank you and praise you for your lovingkindness, your mercy which is new every morning and your love which endures forever! What a mighty and loving Father you are! Help us to see you for who you really are and to share you with this lost and dying world that so desperately needs you. Let us speak life and not death and let us lift our brothers and sisters up and help them to see your great love. Let us help reveal Jesus, the Holy Anointed One to them so they too may be saved. We pray in the name of Jesus, the messiah; the Lord of Lords and King of Kings! Amen!
