I love studying and thinking about the many names of God. Each one reveals another aspect of Him that is remarkable and wonderful. El Gibbor is that way too – it just rolls off your tongue as you pronounce it in a way that speaks of power, strength and majesty.
{Isaiah 9:6 KJV}
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
The Mighty God – El Gibbor is a picture of God as a Warrior and Champion – gibbor (Strong’s H1368) means powerful, strong or mighty. Wherever the Bible speaks of mighty men of valor or men of power like David, Jephthah, Joshua and Nimrod who were all renowned for their strength and skill as warriors, this same Hebrew word is used.
{Isaiah 42:13 KJV}
The LORD shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea, roar; he shall prevail against his enemies.
Make no mistake about it – our God is a mighty warrior. David says of Him in the book of Psalms:
{Psalms 24:8 KJV}
Who [is] this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
{Psalms 45:3 KJV}
Gird thy sword upon [thy] thigh, O [most] mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty.
{Psalms 103:20 KJV}
Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.
And, the Lord teaches us to fight and make war as well. Our fight is not a physical battle like David had to fight
{Psalms 144:1 KJV}
[[[A Psalm] of David.]] Blessed [be] the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, [and] my fingers to fight:
But, a spiritual battle that we wage against sin, evil and temptation. Our fight is not against flesh and blood, but
{Ephesians 6:12 KJV}
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].
And we are not alone because The Mighty God – El Gibbor is with us, he sustains us, he trains our hands to war, he comforts us and upholds us! What a Mighty God He is!
Thank you Father for revealing yourself to us through your names and your word! Thank you Father that we can count on you to stand with us and for us no matter what the world or the enemy throws at us. Thank you Father for Jesus! Thank you Father for the Holy Spirit and thank you for teaching us to fight and overcome the evil one. We praise you, we adore you! You are the matchless one, unlimited in every way – who can stand against you! We love you Lord! In Jesus’ mighty name – Amen!
Bless you
