[Zechariah 4:6 NKJV] So he answered and said to me: “This [is] the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the LORD of hosts.
This verse has always been of particular interest to me. It speaks of our need to rely on God and His Spirit – for absolutely everything we need! Jerusalem was in shambles as all the walls of the city were torn down and the temple was completely destroyed. It looked utterly hopeless for the city and the people who had been exiled from it to Babylon. And, yet – there is God!
[Haggai 2:4 NKJV] 4 ‘Yet now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ says the LORD; ‘and be strong, Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest; and be strong, all you people of the land,’ says the LORD, ‘and work; for I [am] with you,’ says the LORD of hosts.
God says ‘Be strong! I am with you!’ And, in another place he says ‘I will never leave nor forsake you’. If God is for us – who can be against us!
[Ezra 5:2 NKJV] 2 So Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Jeshua the son of Jozadak rose up and began to build the house of God which [is] in Jerusalem; and the prophets of God [were] with them, helping them.
[Haggai 2:23 NKJV] 23 ‘In that day,’ says the LORD of hosts, ‘I will take you, Zerubbabel My servant, the son of Shealtiel,’ says the LORD, ‘and will make you like a signet [ring]; for I have chosen you,’ says the LORD of hosts.”
When everything looks blackest or when we’re about to lose all hope, God steps in and changes everything! Look, Zerubbabel was chosen! And, we are chosen! And, it wasn’t by our might or our strength that we were chosen, but by His Spirit! Chosen is a highly favored place to be! Another of my favorite verses reads
[2 Corinthians 3:17 NKJV] 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord [is], there [is] liberty.
We are chosen by God and his Spirit is with us and resides within us – wonder of wonder! God is so very, very good and we are so privileged to be the vessels he has chosen to become the hosts of his Holy Spirit. We didn’t earn this nor could we for this is all God’s doing. This is very hard to describe or understand – but this is his way – the highway of the holy ones.
Dear heavenly Father, please let us live our lives as true sons and daughters of the King! Let us serve you with alacrity, joy and with tenacity! Let us walk the walk and talk the talk of the Kingdom of God and take back the ground the enemy has stolen. Help us not listen to his lies or doubt your word every again for we are filled with your precious Spirit and we win – just as your word declares! Thank you for Jesus and all he has done for us! Thank you for your Spirit! Bless the Lord oh my soul and all that is within me, bless his holy name! In Jesus’ matchless name… Amen!
