[Isaiah 5:18 NKJV] 18 Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of vanity, And sin as if with a cart rope;
As I read this, this morning – it struck me how obvious and prevalent this practice is – yet we tend to overlook it or fail to discern the depth to which some people will go to do the wrong thing. All of these verses were in my natural course of reading today.
My study bible says that the rulers of Israel and Judah were so attached to their sin that they drug it with them wherever they went! That’s pretty graphic to me. It reminds me of Psalm 2:
[Psalm 2:1-3 NKJV] 1 Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed, [saying], 3 “Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.”
And, in another place
[Proverbs 2:13-15 NKJV] 13 From those who leave the paths of uprightness To walk in the ways of darkness; 14 Who rejoice in doing evil, [And] delight in the perversity of the wicked; 15 Whose ways [are] crooked, And [who are] devious in their paths;
There is justice for these people and it isn’t pretty
[Proverbs 2:22 NKJV] 22 But the wicked will be cut off from the earth, And the unfaithful will be uprooted from it.
[Psalm 2:8-9 NKJV] 8 Ask of Me, and I will give [You] The nations [for] Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth [for] Your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ”
At times I lose perspective when it comes to the wicked and I need to be reminded of their end. It humbles me and keeps me on my knees for all those who will certainly suffer more than they can possibly imagine.
Father, I pray you will open the eyes of the wicked and reveal Jesus to them in all his glory. Help them to understand there is a remedy and all they have to do is turn and repent, and receive Jesus to set it all right again. I thank you for Jesus, and for all his atoning work on the cross. I thank you for drawing me and all those reading this and for saving us! You redeemed us for we were no better then the wicked who are still estranged from you. Help us to be light to them – to offer them the good news! That Jesus saves! And, he saves to the uttermost! We know time is short Lord, please give us courage to fight the good fight all the way to the end! I pray in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!
