The Evil that Men Do

“The evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones.” – William Shakespeare

Many people I know are so dismayed about the terrible, incessant and completely un-relenting assault on anything good or wholesome in the media and from the liberal left. It is disheartening to continually see them bashing the President, and everything good or righteous in our land – the home of the free and the brave. This is the shrill voice of the wicked and the din they raise is ear piercing.

It is so easy to fall into the trap of dismay and discouragement. After all, the purveyors of doom and despair are all lined up to tell us how bad things are going, how there will never be any respite as long as we have those people in authority… Gloom, despair and misery on me…

I and many others had given up on the NFL after the protests over the National Anthem. I even vowed to never watch another game or buy anything advertising their logo. The whole thing seemed to come into agreement with the way the country was acting towards the president and his cabinet. I had allowed myself to pick up the offense.

Yet, in my normal course of study, I ran across two confirmations this morning that evil will not prevail.

[Isaiah 57:21 NKJV]  “[There is] no peace,” Says my God, “for the wicked.”

and then

[Psalm 58:3-11 NKJV] 3 The wicked are estranged from the womb; They go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies. 4 Their poison [is] like the poison of a serpent; [They are] like the deaf cobra [that] stops its ear, 5 Which will not heed the voice of charmers, Charming ever so skillfully. 6 Break their teeth in their mouth, O God! Break out the fangs of the young lions, O LORD! 7 Let them flow away as waters [which] run continually; [When] he bends [his bow], Let his arrows be as if cut in pieces. 8 [Let them be] like a snail which melts away as it goes, [Like] a stillborn child of a woman, that they may not see the sun. 9 Before your pots can feel [the burning] thorns, He shall take them away as with a whirlwind, As in His living and burning wrath. 10 The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance; He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked, 11 So that men will say, “Surely [there is] a reward for the righteous; Surely He is God who judges in the earth.”

Our Lord is the Lord of all creation and He is the judge of all the earth! And, He will have His way and He will perform a quick work upon those who not repent and be healed. I feel for them because they know not what is in store for them because the Lord will not be mocked and He is utterly and completely righteous and holy, and when He judges and delivers justice – there is no further appeal. It will be final and forever.

And God – he installed a man into the Whitehouse that ran completely against the grain. The election was rigged from the beginning – the votes were already in place and counted, the spying apparatus and mechanisms were in place, all the judges were bought and paid for – it was a done deal. The anarchists would have their way and they would proceed on their plan to destroy the last bastion of freedom in the world.  But God! He overruled all their machinations and deals, and trumped all their plays! He installed the most unlikely candidate – one who could not be bought or bribed! In my mind, I hear ‘ a man after my own heart.’ Praise God!

Then, the underdog, the Eagles win the national championship at the super bowl! Since I had vowed and given up on NFL football, I had no idea of who these men were and yet, they are real men with a heart for God and our country! The coach goes from being a high school football coach to leading the world champions in 9 years! He says ‘ I have the best players in the world!’ He and the team honor God at every opportunity, after every achievement and have given him all the glory! Praise God!

I am again astounded by how thorough and perfectly our Father has arranged and brought all this to fruition! I must let the offense go now and forgive those who do not know any better then to attack our King, our flag and our country! It was so easy to allow offense to creep in – even when I knew better! Only a little leaven goes so far!

Oh Father, please open the eyes of the wicked before they enter into eternity. Help them to see the truth and to turn from their sin so they may be healed. Nevertheless, Father, do not allow them to prevail over righteousness or over your children Lord. Give them no rest Father! Keep the gospel of Jesus Christ in their face at all times – they shall have no excuse for missing salvation if they so choose to… Send people across their path to remind them again and again of your incredible love for them – that you sent your beloved son into the world so that none should perish! And, Father, please remind us that He also came to destroy the works of the enemy! And, help us to be about that using the three powerful weapons you have given us – faith, hope and love! I pray in Jesus’ mighty, matchless name! Amen!
